One of the first things I get asked when I hesitantly say I’m a “blogger” is whether I can make a full time income from it. I know it comes from a place of curiosity, but it always feels like it’s laced with a large dose of disbelief that it’s possible.
When I say yes, I can it’s usually followed by “yeah, but is it like a good income?”
Umm depends what you consider good, but I’ve had months where I’ve earned my previous employment’s annual salary in a month, so yes… pretty good.
The simple truth is that you can make a GREAT salary by blogging full time, but most people just don’t have it in them to work for a year – or more – for free.
It’s unlikely that you’ll see any money from blogging in your first year of posting. Zero dollars. Could you show up daily, weekly, or monthly for free, with the faith that you believe you can turn your hobby into a full time salary?
Most people couldn’t – and there’s no judgement here – but consistency is one of the main determining factors in success online. If you don’t show up, you wont get paid.
Real Examples Of Bloggers Kicking Ass Online
There are a few bloggers I’ve followed for a few years and thoroughly enjoyed watching their progress shoot up.
Pat Flyn – SmartPassiveIncome.com
I remember finding his site years ago, maybe five or six years ago, and binge reading all his posts. I used to find it amazing that he was making a few thousand dollars a month. I even tried to mimic one of his ideas with a completely different niche and failed miserably. It was my first attempt of making money online and it went as wrong as it possible could have, but I’m grateful for that step as it lead me to there.
Now Pat’s pulling in $160,000 a month which is ridiculous and a true testament to how much he’s offered to the online community.
Michelle – MakingSenseOfCents.com
For a while, Michelle and I were making similar amounts online, but recently she changed her game up and I’m so impressed by how well she’s doing. Legit amazing. For those who ask whether you can make a good income online, how does $70,000 sound? Pretty awesome? Yup.
One thing I’ve always admired about Michelle is how responsive she is, I think she’s replied to every comment I’ve ever posted on her blog and it’s so refreshing that someone doing so well still has time for their fans. She also lives in a RV and is making this kind of money while traveling the most beautiful parts of the United States.
The Team at Pinch of Yum
Think that it’s only personal finance bloggers kicking ass? Nope. Pinch of Yum is a food blog that makes tens of thousands of dollars a month. I wouldn’t have thought food blogging could be such a profitable niche, but I think if you create anything that adds value, pair it with beautiful photos and a healthy dash of transparency, and you’re on your way to wild success.
These are three blogs I’ve followed for a long, long time. I’ve seen them start at humble beginnings and now each of them earn monthly salaries most of us could only dream of.
